During COVID, I decided to upgrade from my desk-mounted steering wheel to a dedicated chassis. Being able to sit in a rigidly mounted chair with the wheel, pedals, and shifter in the right place is huge for turning consistent lap times. I was able to design the whole setup in Solidworks and subsequently order custom-cut lengths of aluminum extrusion.Â
It has served me well during countless laps of iRacing and Assetto Corsa, including an edition of 12 hours of Sebring I ran virtually with three other drivers.
Each mounting platform is independently adjustable, allowing me to dial in the exact position I want for all of the controls. While aluminum extrusion isn't my favorite building material, it's great for this application where I can set it and forget it.
