Part of my dilligence with PPE (personal protective equipment) means ensuring clean air for breathing. Awareness around air quality is becoming much better and I enjoy coming up with functional and stylish solutions.
Since I do a lot of metal grinding (and share a shop with others who do woodworking) it is very important to remove those small particulates from the air.
This design incorporates a high-CFM fan and standard sized MERV 13 home filters which are easily interchangeable when they reach the end of their life. My design contains almost double the filter area of a commercial shop air filtration system and costs less than a quarter of the price.
The fan on top of the unit blows upwards, creating a low pressure zone in the interior of the unit. Dirty air is drawn through the filters, cleaned, and expelled upwards. This prioritizes cleaning the air at working and breathing height, and avoids disturbing any dust that has settled on the shop floor.
